Product Application Engineer

We are looking for a self-motivated, career driven Product Application Engineer to join our Engineering team. The Product Application Engineer is responsible to manage product development projects and provide technical support to the sales, manufacturing, and quality teams. Technical activities may include conducting feasibility assessments, product design, interpreting GD&T, design for manufacturing (casting and machining), casting simulations, reviewing customer product and material specifications, and data analysis.


Responsibilities

    • Provides engineering expertise to internal team members (sales, design, manufacturing, and quality) and customer designers and engineers for:
      • Design for manufacturing (casting and machining)
      • Reading drawings and interpreting GD&T
      • Material assessment and application
      • Casting simulation results and interpretation
      • Manufacturing feasibility assessment
      • Product design modelling (CAD)
      • Reviewing manufacturing data
      • Reviewing customer drawings, specifications, and customer specific requirements
      • Input to quoting
      • Defining manufacturing processes
      • Reverse engineering activities
      • Reviewing/approving fixtures and tooling
      • Specifying testing and analysing the results
    • Uses project management skills to define and drive projects (usually product development projects) to a successful conclusion (on time, on budget, meeting all quality and output objectives).
    • Generates reports, presentations, and summaries to document and provide updates for all of the above activities.
    • Drives cost reduction and continuous improvement projects for products and manufacturing processes.
    • Facilitates technical information exchange between Accucam’s Canadian and overseas operations.
    • Interfaces with customers to share technical information and lead product design and development discussions and activities.
    • Reviews customer drawings, models, and RFQ documentation for accuracy, completeness, manufacturing feasibility, material specifications, and generate suggestions for technical improvements to reduce cost and improve quality.
    • Ensures that products are quoted accurately to support new product development and new production implementation.
    • Liaises with Sales, Purchasing/ Procurement, Manufacturing, and Quality at Accucam to ensure that customer requirements are understood and satisfied.
    • Cooperates with the staff of other Accucam departments to give specialist technical advice, share information and to resolve design or production problems.
    • Maintains a thorough knowledge of the casting, machining, forming, welding, and joining technologies used in the manufacture of Accucam parts.
    • Maintains knowledge of customer’s technological directions, including products and materials. Keeps abreast of emerging technological and market trends that may affect Accucam’s business.

Qualifications

    • 5 to 10 years of experience in the technical fields of casting, machining, project management and product development;
    • Bachelors Degree in Engineering from an accredited University;
    • Proficient in MS Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook;
    • Proficient in using 3D modelling software such as Creo or SolidWorks as required
    • Knowledge of casting simulation an asset
    • Experience and knowledge of various casting and forging processes;
    • Experience and knowledge of CNC machining and related manufacturing processes;
    • Strong understanding of blueprint reading and interpretation (GD&T);
    • Good working knowledge of ferrous materials and grades (wrought and cast), properties, heat treatment, and surface coatings;
    • Experience and knowledge of assembly and joining practices including welding and brazing;
    • Solid organizational and time management skills;
    • Critical thinking and effective problem-solving abilities;
    • Excellent communication skills, including presentation skills required;
    • Self motivated and works well with team members;
    • Ability to work independently, multitask and prioritize tasks with strict deadlines;
    • Understanding of OEM engineering and development processes preferred;
    • Travel as needed to supplier or customer locations for meetings, product development and technical presentations, project updates, design reviews, and capability assessments.
